Mage Knight

Recruiting guide
Short version: be at an inhabited site, use your action to interact, generate Influence, apply reputation once, check the unit can be recruited there, pay its cost, and give it a Command token.

Check this recruitment

The full flow

  1. Reach an inhabited site. Movement comes first. Recruiting is part of an Interaction action, so you cannot recruit and then resume moving.
  2. Declare the Interaction action. You cannot interact while your reputation marker is on the X space.
  3. Choose from the current Unit offer. Check the recruitment icon on the Unit card against the site. A conquered City's own card tells you which units or special recruitment options it allows.
  4. Generate Influence. Play Influence effects and use eligible ready units. Add your reputation modifier once for this whole interaction. At a conquered City, also add +1 for each of your shields there.
  5. Pay the printed cost. You may buy any number and mixture of things the site offers if you can pay for them from the same Influence total. Unspent Influence disappears when the interaction ends.
  6. Assign a Command token. If every token is occupied, disband a unit first and remove that card from the game. Then put the new unit under the available token.
  7. The new unit is ready. You may use it later in this turn, but you cannot use its Influence ability to help pay for its own recruitment.
  8. Leave the gap in the Unit offer. Unlike Spell and Advanced Action offers, the Unit offer is not refilled immediately. It is replaced at the start of the next round.

Where can units be recruited?

Village

Units showing the Village recruitment icon. The Village also sells healing for 3 Influence per point.

Monastery

Units showing the Monastery icon. It also sells healing for 2 Influence per point and may offer Advanced Actions.

Your Keep

Units showing the Keep icon. It must be a Keep you own; another player's Keep does not give you its normal recruitment option.

Conquered Mage Tower

Units showing the Mage Tower icon. Any player may interact at a conquered tower; it also sells Spells.

Conquered City

Use the City card's recruitment symbols and special text. Add +1 Influence for each of your shields in that City.

Unofficial fan-made play aid. This follows the Ultimate Edition rulebook: reputation is fixed when the interaction begins, and Unit offers refresh at round start—not after each recruit.
